Gate Gallop

The “Gate Gallop” is an annual fund raising event for the local St Giles’ Hospice, held in June each year at the Gate Inn, Amington, Nr Tamworth. The event is organised by the Peel Road Runners and sponsored mainly by Wolverhampton & Dudley Breweries and Auto-Smart. The main events of the day were a 7-mile run (attracting competitors from many parts of the Country) and a 3-mile Fun Run (with runners of all ages).
There was also entertainment laid on all day including the Amington Silver Band, an Irish Caley Band who combined very well with the Banjo Beetles Band, the International Garland Dancers, a Karaoke/Disco and a quiz show. There were also several stalls in the garden area run by various local organisations.
Helped by the much better weather this year the total sum of money raised for St Giles by the events, raffles and collections on the day was £2000 (£700 up on last year’s total).
Local dignitaries, and representatives from the Hospice attended and the prizes were presented by the Mayor of Tamworth—David Foster.
A lot of voluntary work goes into making this event such a resounding success and hearty thanks go out to all concerned, particularly the Peel Road Runners Club who co-ordinate and organise it—and they will soon be starting on the arrangements for next years’s event !
